Apple could choose to make this year’s 5.8-inch iPhone X successor $100 cheaper at $899, reserving the old pricetag for a new 6.5-inch device, according to one analyst.

Apple will be launching its new iPhone models in the fall of 2018 and according to earlier reports the Cupertino giant will be launching three iPhone variants this year – a 6.5-inch OLED model, a 6.1-inch LCD model, and a 5.8-inch OLED model. Now, a new analyst report predicts the pricing details of the three iPhone models. Apple will reportedly make the 2018 version of the iPhone X, $100 cheaper.

According to RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani, as reported by Apple Insider, Apple will price its second-generation iPhone X at $899 and the alleged iPhone X Plus will cost $999. He said the iPhone X has seen ‘limited success’ with prices starting at $999 and that might result in the company lowering the price by $100 to reinvigorate sales. As per Daryanani’s prediction, the 2018 iPhone lineup will start at “$700+” for the 6.1-inch LCD model and the price of the 5.8-inch OLED model could start at $899. Finally, the iPhone X Plus, the 6.5-inch model, will start at $999.

Notably, an earlier report had claimed that the 5.8-inch variant of the 2018 iPhone will be cheaper to manufacture, despite the OLED display. An analyst had claimed that the 5.85-inch OLED iPhone might be launched as the cheapest of the three new models, adding that engineering samples have shown that this particular model has adopted components with lower specs than in the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone.

Meanwhile, as per the new report, Daryanani also agrees to the presence of three models of the 2018 iPhone. He also noted that all the three iPhones variants are likely to use Face ID, a feature present only in the premium iPhone X.

At this point, all we know is that the iPhone X was likely a key contributor to Apple’s record-breaking revenue of $88.3 billion last quarter, easily topping its previous all-time high of $78.4 billion set in the year-ago quarter. Whether that momentum carried forward to the current quarter remains to be seen.

Based on Daryanani’s research note, obtained by reports, here’s our take on how the next iPhone lineup could look in terms of pricing:

  • 6.5-inch second-generation iPhone X Plus: $999
  • 5.8-inch second-generation iPhone X: $899
  • 6.1-inch mid-range iPhone X with LCD: $799
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus: $549 and $669
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: $449 and $569
  • iPhone SE: $349

Here’s a rough idea of how the next iPhone lineup could look if Apple maintains its current pricing strategy instead:

  • 6.5-inch second-generation iPhone X Plus: $1,099
  • 5.8-inch second-generation iPhone X: $999
  • 6.1-inch mid-range iPhone X with LCD: $799
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus: $549 and $669
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: $449 and $569
  • iPhone SE: $349

Apple will likely unveil its next iPhones in September as usual, and presumably only the company’s top executives are privy to pricing plans.

It is worth noting that this is just a prediction from an analyst and should be taken with a pinch of salt. We expect to get more details about the upcoming iPhone models over the coming months.
