It’s all about the ladies tonight! Billie Eilish accepts her Billboard Women in Music Awards 2019 Woman of the Year honour. The superstar ends the evening — which also includes an empowering speech from Billboard’s Woman of the Decade Taylor Swift. And performances from honorees Megan Thee Stallion and Rosalía — with a brief and humble acceptance.
Eilish introduces by Cyndi Lauper, who says: “When I first heard Billie sing, I kinda stopped breathing for a sec. It so emotional and so deep — it stopped me. Even when you had that black s— coming down your face”.
Lauper also called out Eilish’s recent Saturday Night Live performance. So saying “that was it for me. I think you’re magical — and this is just the beginning. It’s a long journey”.
Following a brief video highlighting Eilish’s many accomplishments (which she called “so embarrassing”), the teen sensation came on stage. “It’s really weird to be a woman of the year at 17,” she says. “Ariana Grande got the award that I’m getting right now a year ago. And two weeks ago I realized that’s the award I’m getting — and that really freaked me out.”
She wraps her own speech by quoting Taylor’s that open the night — in which Swift note how we have to take care of the young women eager. And starting to build a career — saying with open arms: “You took care of me”.
Woman of the Year winner
It’s a major night for music, and that means a major night for fashion at the annual Billboard Women in Music Awards 2019! So many of our favourite artists are hitting the red carpet tonight. So including Woman of the Decade recipient, Taylor Swift, Woman of the Year winner, Billie Eilish, Game Changer, Alanis Morissette and so many more. A slew of famous faces walks the red carpet. And totally brought their A-game when it came to their fashion, as well.
As the Woman of the Decade, Taylor, 29, totally show out on the fashion front. Arriving in a sleek navy jumper with a culotte pant cut by Oscar de la Renta, Taylor’s look was fashion. And business all mixed into one. The sleeveless piece features gorgeous gold chain details on the front. And also act as the halter to hold the number together. She finishes her look with an open toe gold sandal, dark nail polish and her go-to red lip. The Lover singer skips her usual blowout for a high ponytail braid. So showing us she isn’t afraid to mix things up!
