Nokia announced a bunch of new handsets at this year’s MWC at Barcelona. However, the two handsets that we will discuss in today’s article are the Nokia 7 Plus – the successor to the Nokia 7, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco – the successor to last year’s Nokia flagship – the Nokia 8. Mobile World Congress 2018 saw the launch of several new smartphones from HMD Global’s Nokia brand of smartphones. Among these were the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco that offer an upgraded experience over last year’s Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 respectively. Part of Google’s Android One initiative, both smartphones are powered by stock Android with no customisations. Nokia 8 Sirocco: Specifications, Features
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a more refined and more feature-packed version of the Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with a 5.5-inch OLED display with QHD resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and that is the only major change it has over the regular Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is also among the very few devices to have a bezel-less display with 16:9 aspect ratio.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and 6GB of RAM. The device comes with 128GB storage along with microSD card slot. The Nokia 8 Sirocco runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS, and it is a part of Android One program. The Nokia 8 Sirocco has 12MP + 12MP dual-camera at the back with phase-detection autofocus, OIS, and LED flash.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco cokes with a 3260mAh battery that support Quick Charge 4. The device also has a fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C port, and Nokia OZO audio.
Nokia 7 Plus: Specifications, Features
The Nokia 7 Plus features an 18:9 aspect ratio bezel-less display with 6-inch screen size and Full HD+ resolution. The device is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC mated with 4GB of RAM. The Nokia 7 Plus is also an Android One smartphone that runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS.
The Nokia 7 Plus has a 12MP + 12MP dual-camera setup at the back with phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone dual-LED flash. The device packs a 3800mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. According to us, the Nokia 7 Plus will be an instant hit in the Indian smartphone market, provided that Nokia launches the device at a reasonable price.
Nokia 7 Plus vs Nokia 8 Sirocco price
Nokia 7 Plus price has been set at EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 32,000), which is being called the global average price, excluding taxes and subsidies. Talking about the availability, the phone will be sold from early April in Black/ Copper and White/ Copper colour variants. On the other hand, the Nokia 8 Sirocco price has been set at EUR 749 (roughly Rs. 60,000), which is a global average price excluding taxes and subsidies. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will be sold in a Black colour variant with the same timelines as the Nokia 7 Plus. Additionally, HMD Global is hosting an India launch event on April 4 that is expected to see the announcement of Nokia 6 (2018); the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco could also be showcased at the event.

The Nokia 7 Plus runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box and sports a 6-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, paired with 4GB of LPDD4 RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB).
In the camera department, the handset bears a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel primary wide-angle sensor and a 13-megapixel secondary sensor, with f/1.75 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The Nokia 7 Plus rear camera has features like 2x optical zoom, dual-tone LED flash, and Zeiss optics. The front camera, on the other hand, has a 16-megapixel fixed-focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and Zeiss optics.
Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on the Nokia 7 Plus include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. It sports a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) pOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The handset bears a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage. Storage is not expandable via microSD card.
In terms of optics, the smartphone has a 12-megapixel wide-angle primary sensor – with f/1.75 aperture – and a 13-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.6 aperture, 2x optical zoom, and dual-tone LED flash. The Nokia 8 Sirocco front camera has a 5-megapixel fixed-focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1.4-micron pixels sensor size.
In terms of connectivity, the Nokia 8 Sirocco offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, and GPS/ A-GPS. Sensors on the handset include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, compass, fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco will come with a slight premium over the Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 is being currently sold for Rs. 28,999. So, we expect the Nokia 8 Sirocco to be priced at Rs. 32,999. The Nokia 7 Plus is expected to be priced at Rs. 22,999.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco will compete directly with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and the OnePlus 5T. The Nokia 7 Plus will compete directly with the Oppo F7 and the Vivo V9.
