- Nokia X set to launch on 16 may
- The announcement was made via a post on Weibo
- Nokia N8 was launched 13 years back
- A modern version of Nokia N8 might arrive soon
HMD Global is all set to launch another Nokia series phone, it seems, and this one looks like it will embrace that ‘notch’. There is some confusion regarding the naming conventions though, it is being speculated to be called either the Nokia X or the Nokia X6 and will most likely launch on 16 May.
Nokia X6 was expected to unveil yesterday in China, but HMD Global did not make a splash with its iPhone X-lookalke. Apparently, the Nokia X6 launch will be held roughly 2 weeks from now, with the company posting a photo of the handset, showing the notch above the display. The handset, however, may be called the Nokia X instead of the X6, going by a HMD Global post. Apart from this, the company seems to be working on a relaunch of the Nokia N8-00 smartphone.
According to a report in GizmoChina, fresh photos of what appears to be the Nokia X have been posted on Weibo which give away its design. For starters, it comes with a visible notch in the front and there is also a chin with the Nokia branding. It appears to have a glass back with a circular fingerprint scanner just below the dual rear camera module, which is aligned in the centre.
The report goes on to state that Nokia is planning to have a week-long event at the Mercedes Me Square in Sanlitun, Beijing which will end on 2 May. The marketing materials point to a ‘Nokia X’ moniker even though rumours are also hinting at a Nokia X6. The report states that it could be a revamp of the older Nokia X series with the Nokia X6 as the first device. Nothing is known for certain at the moment.
It is expected to come with a 5.8-inch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. This design seems to be quite reminiscent of the Nokia 7 Plus due to the placement of the cameras and the accents. The phone is said to have two variants of Snapdragon 636 SoC and MediaTek Helio P60. The handset is tipped to be coming with the Android 8.1 Oreo.
As far as pricing is concerned, a report by digi.tech.qq says that the Nokia X or X6 will be priced at CNY 1,599 (approx Rs 16,000) for the 4 GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, while the 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage model could be priced at CNY 1,799 (approx Rs 18,000).
Apart from this, a teaser posted on Weibo, HMD hinted towards the launch of a modernised version of a phone from the N series. The teaser states that the Nokia N series made its debut on April 27 in 2005, exactly 13 years back. The image shows the Nokia N8 so it wouldn’t be entirely wrong to assume that this is the phone that will be relaunched between April 27 and May 2.
