What is Record Store Day?
It is a day that celebrates the independence and culture of record stores across the world. This day brings music fans, artists, sellers, and promoters together. It first began in the USA in 2008, and soon it become a major event for vinyl lovers. On this day the local record store organizes special live performances from local artists. Many people collect vinyl records, from reissued classic albums to previously unheard live recordings. Each year, more than 200 independent record stores across the UK take part, selling thousands of copies.
When is the 2022 Record Store Day?
Record Store Day 2021 was a two-day event due to social distancing laws. However, this year it is a one-day event selling large numbers of records. 2022 Record Store Day was on Saturday, 23rd April. Due to Covid 19 pandemic, there is a delay in vinyl manufacturing, which means that some discs will not arrive on time. Instead, it will be available on 18 June.
How to buy vinyl on Record Store Day?
To buy the vinyl of your choice, you’ll need to visit your nearest record store in person. Since it has become popular in recent years, you need to be present a couple of hours before queuing. Some people even stand outside some shops a day before the event.
It’s advised to reach out as early as possible so that you don’t miss out. Some stores ask you to write out your wishlist while being in the queue and collect it before entering the shop. Then they pack it up waiting for you at the counter.
Sadly, you can not order your vinyl online as Record Store Day supports ‘bricks and mortar.’ It means that the stores will operate conventionally rather than over the internet. However, the stores will be able to offer any unsold stock from 8 pm on Friday 29 April. But the releases you’re looking for will still be available is not guaranteed due to limited stock.

Record Store Day has appointed recognizable names from the music and entertainment industry to promote the event in previous years.
On Saturday, Record Store Day announced Taylor Swift as this year’s global ambassador.
Saturday on Instagram, Swift said, “I’m very proud to be this year’s Ambassador for Record Store Day.” The pop star released a two-sided vinyl record containing two versions of her song “The Lakes” from her album “Folklore.” There are only 10,000 copies of the vinyl available.
