Oscars 2022 made enough noise not only because of the golden trophies or the glamorous stars on the red carpet. During the live telecast, Will Smith punched comedian Chris Rock on stage. Yes, you read it right. He punched! The incident took place on Sunday at Academy Award when Will Smith lost his cool. The comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith during his appearance.

Chris Rock cracked a joke before presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature. He said: “Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you.” GI Jane 2 is a war drama film in which the lead actress shaves her head to complete her training.
For the unversed, the King Richard star’s wife Jada has a condition called alopecia. It causes excessive hair fall. She has spoken about her condition on various platforms in the past. When Chris, Jada rolled her eyes at the mention of it.
And then the unexpected moment occurred. Smith walked up to the stage and smacked the comedian. Will Smith shouted at Chris Rock saying “keep my wife’s name out your f*****g mouth.”

The incident shocked everybody at the Oscars 2022, including Hollywood celebrities. Later, on March 29, Will Smith released a public apology to Chris Rock on his Instagram account. He writes: “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.” He concluded by saying: “I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees, and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress”.
